FAQ
What is calibration?
Calibration is the process of comparing the accuracy of a measuring or testing device with a known accuracy standard to determine whether the values read are correct. The purpose of calibration is to determine and confirm the accuracy of a measuring instrument.
Why is calibration of test and measurement equipment important?
Calibration can be used to determine whether a measuring instrument is within acceptable tolerances and whether it meets the set specifications. Calibration also helps detect any errors or deviations in the measuring equipment in order to correct them, if possible. This helps improve the accuracy and reliability of your measurements. Moreover, calibration can help extend the life of the measuring equipment and save costs in the long run.
How often should calibrations be done?
How often calibrations should be performed depends on several factors, such as the type of measuring instrument, frequency of use, environmental conditions and industry or application requirements. Some standards stipulate that measuring instruments should be calibrated annually. Did you know that calibration labs should not mention intervals unless requested? If you still wish to do so, please get in touch and we will put this right.
Which industries are being served?
We serve a variety of industries, including process, medical, manufacturing, aerospace and automotive. Contact us to see how we can help you with your calibration needs.
How long does it take to calibrate equipment?
How long equipment calibration takes depends on several factors, such as the type of instrument, the complexity of the measurements and the calibration process itself. In general, the duration of a calibration can vary from a few minutes to several hours. It is often advisable to allow the instrument to acclimatise before proceeding to calibration.
LHM instrumentation maintains a lead time of 10 to 15 working days (excluding any adjustment) for internal calibration orders because we know how important measuring instruments are to a company.
